Joss Whdeon based the series on his orginal script and not the one they used for the movie, so off course some things don't match. And I think the movie is really, really bad but entertaining.
I saw the movie first but like I said thought it was kinda bad. lol. Obviously I like the series more, hehe. Like someone I know said : "Joss Whdeon is my master." lmao. The guy's brilliant. Buffy, Angel, Firefly, etc.

To be honest with you, I enjoyed the movie better than the series. There is more of the involvement of the books. If they had made the TV series according the orginal script with the movie it would have made more sence. Luke Perry really made me laugh is this one!

I think to fully appriciate this movie you have to completley disregard the series (and vise-versa). The only simularity between the movie and the show is the basic ideas...but each almost seem to be a completely different take on the basic ideas and so cannot be compared fairly. Both stand well on their own for their individual merits...for this movie it's a lighter comical side.
I loved this movie (and I loved the series on it's own as well) and the whole airhead verison Buffy along with the serious Merrick and the odd king/master vampire played by Rutger Hauer. I've seen vampire movies that have made me laugh (but mostly because they pull out every steriotype etc and basically suck) but this one wasn't in ridicule but actual enjoyment.
And even after the movie you can see lefty still kicking the wall beofre finally dying? I guess we never find out if he actually dyed lol. Paul Reubens was hilarious in this. My favorite line was When Lefty was saying he's a vampire and can do anything he wants. Buffy deadpans something to the effect of 'Ok then, clap'

I give it a thumbs up, partially because it was so much better than the spin off seiries (Kirsty Swanson is Buffy) and partially because it was also full of cheese

I'm sorry. But this is the film that really did it for me. A combo of Buffy and Innocent Blood that spawned my novels.
There's not much point on waxing lyrical because most people think this is god-awful and certainly not a jot on the TV series. Whereas I think otherwise.
With tongue firmly planted in cheek I can sit back and allow ALL the silliness to come forth. Swanson plays the preppy cheer leader as she was meant to be; face full of make-up and head full of air. Sutherland plays it dead straight which comes over even more rediculous given the circumstance, and Hauer is, well, Hauer really; cool, calm and very menacing.
I think this was Reuben's first return to the screen after the 'incident' and he hams up his panto villain vamp BIG time.
Being a dutiful hater of 90210 I wanted to despise Perry but he fits in well as the school drop out who wants to be a hero but who is in well over his head.
I don't care what any of you think Swanson IS Buffy; Gellar isn't fit to polish her baton.
